Adaptation and Localization
As everyone knows, translating goes beyond replacing one word with another. Rather, it is transposing in the target language whatever ideas were expressed in the source text, adapting the message according to the various cultural imperatives. Adaptation and localization go farther and modify the content, layout and design to suit the tastes of the target audience, adapting the text to local markets.
It is the stylistic detail, much like the cherry on the proverbial sundae, that will convince the members of the target audience that the message was indeed created with them – and their culture – in mind.
